Some people think that home-made gifts are cheap and tacky, but it’s likely that their memories are tainted by the sort of things that they made while they were at school. Home-Made Chic Gifts and Treats
If you have a talent for cooking, why not make some jam, cakes, or alcoholic truffles (depending on how well you know the recipient), and wrap them up using off-cuts of floral fabrics. Complete the design with a cute bow, and you’ll have a low cost but luxurious looking gift that could have come from a country boutique.
If you have a knack for graphic design, pick up an inexpensive, plan cushion, and sew a felt motif onto it. There are some high-end designers making “geek-chic” cushions that are designed to look like Apple iOS logos or traditional keyboard keys. You could recreate this look quite easily with a little felt and some careful sewing.
Talented cross-stitch lovers and people that are skilled in painting, photography or embroidery have a lot of other options open to them for sewing and design. Try to figure out what your own talents are, and take some time to experiment with new designs. You can use communities such as Pinterest and Deviant Art to get some inspiration. If your attempt is a failure, you can always rush to the supermarket and buy a box of chocolates instead!
